Introduction :- India is a land of festivals. Many festivals are celebrated here . Among this, Holi is the one which is called ‘the festival of colours’ . Besides it, we also call it the festival of harvesting. It is celebrated with great joy by the people of Hindu religion.

Celebration :- Holi, falls in the month of March (Falgun) just after the winter. It marks the beginning of spring season. There is a great mythological story of celebrating this festival. Story behind it is ,Holika, the sister of devil Hiranyakashyap tried to burn Prahlad in the big fire but Prahlad was saved by God. Hindu celebrated the victory of goodness over the devil power.

Preparations :- Before Holi, wood is collected and piles are made in the streets. They are called Holi. In the night, it is burnt with the idea that evil is burnt from our life. In every Hindu house, sweets and namkeen are prepared. Young and old mark gulal on the face of one – another and throw water colours. They embrace one – another wishing ‘Happy Holi’ .
